Hyundai's Supernal is reducing its workforce by 10% in California, which equates to about 53 employees across its operations in Orange County, Fremont, and Mojave. This decision is part of an organizational realignment as the company progresses towards aircraft certification and production. The layoffs began on June 30, with the company now employing 500 workers. Supernal is focused on meeting certification requirements with the FAA, starting the application process in 2026 and aiming for aircraft deliveries by the end of 2028.
The company is laying off 27 workers at its Fremont facility in the Bay Area, and a single employee at the company's Mojave facility.
The primary reason for this reduction in force is organizational realignment from the technology development phase to the product development phase of our business.
Supernal will have 500 workers following the cuts, after laying off about 25 employees at Supernal's Orange County operations.
Supernal is actively working through a certification process for its technology with the Federal Aviation Administration, with the application process beginning in 2026.
