NVIDIA is moving production of its AI chips and supercomputers to the United States, specifically in Arizona and Texas, as a strategic response to recent tariff uncertainties. The company has started building Blackwell chips in Phoenix with TSMC and will manufacture supercomputers in Texas through partnerships with Foxconn and Wistron. This move is viewed as a permanent strategy to mitigate trade war risks, especially since recent tariffs have been paused, thus providing some financial relief to NVIDIA amid the ongoing AI boom.
In a decision almost certainly informed by the recent tariff chaos, NVIDIA is going to start making some of its AI chips and supercomputers in the US.
NVIDIA says TSMC is already making Blackwell chips in Phoenix, Arizona and the company is partnering with Amkor and SPIL for testing and packaging.
NVIDIA has benefitted most directly from the current AI boom, and stood to be harshly impacted by the latest round of tariffs announced by President Donald Trump.
Mass production at both plants is expected to ramp up in the next 12-15 months," NVIDIA says.
