Dylan Serota, CEO of Terminal, believes that AI is changing the role of software engineers rather than replacing them. His monthly dinners with CTOs reveal that none think AI will eliminate their jobs. While hiring varies among companies, the demand for software engineers persists, shifting towards different skills rather than less personnel. Serota emphasizes the productivity gains AI tools provide and states the need for more engineers to handle increased software demands and complex projects. The landscape of engineering roles is evolving, demanding new skill sets to meet industry needs.
"There's job evolution, not necessarily job replacement," Serota said.
"There's absolutely consensus that the job is evolving," Serota told BI.
"Being able to increase basically the corpus of data, the corpus of software, you actually will continue to invest in more software engineers to do things," Serota said.
"They were hiring very language- or domain-oriented skill sets for specific projects," Serota explained.
