As presenters called her name she kissed her girlfriend Sinéad Donnelly before going onstage. Doherty thanked producers Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters, dedicated the award to her sister Grace, and expressed deep love and gratitude to Donnelly. She closed by praising the Television Academy. Doherty went public with her relationship in August and previously spoke about accepting her sexuality in her mid-twenties on a podcast.
