Crash Bandicoot Animated TV Series May Come To Netflix - Report
"Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the original Crash Bandicoot, yet this anthropomorphic critter hasn't had any TV shows or film adaptations of his own in the last three decades. However, a new report suggests that Crash Bandicoot may finally get a television series at Netflix. According to What's on Netflix, a Crash Bandicoot animated series is in development from WildBrain Studios,."
"The report doesn't mention any members of the creative team behind the show, but WildBrain does have history in the video game genre. It was the studio behind Sonic Prime and Carmen Sandiego. Some of the studio's other credits include Johnny Test, Go Dog Go, The Snoopy Show, Fireman Sam, and Polly Pocket. Netflix currently has a number of video game-related shows on the streamer, including Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, two iterations of Castlevania, Devil May Cry, and the recently premiered Splinter Cell: Deathwatch."
"The original Crash Bandicoot game was developed by Naughty Dog and released on PlayStation 1. Over the years, the rights to Crash Bandicoot were transferred to Universal Interactive and they currently reside at Activision. The most recent game in the series was Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, which was published in 2020. Last year, a Toys for Bob concept artist said that Crash Bandicoot 5 was canceled during development."
Crash Bandicoot may be adapted into an animated television series for Netflix, reportedly developed by WildBrain Studios. WildBrain has experience with video game adaptations such as Sonic Prime and Carmen Sandiego and additional family programming credits. Netflix already hosts multiple video game-related series and continues to expand its adaptations. The original game was developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation 1 and ownership later moved to Activision. The most recent mainline entry was Crash Bandicoot 4 in 2020, and a planned Crash Bandicoot 5 was reportedly canceled during development. Previous movie pitches were declined by Hollywood, and any future film plans fall under Microsoft's oversight after acquiring Activision.
