Disney is breaking up with Doctor Who
""The BBC remains fully committed to Doctor Who, which continues to be one of our most loved dramas, and we are delighted that Russell T Davies has agreed to write us another spectacular Christmas special for 2026," Salt said. "We can assure fans, the Doctor is not going anywhere, and we will be announcing plans for the next series in due course which will ensure the TARDIS remains at the heart of the BBC.""
""terrific global partners""
Disney will no longer co-produce Doctor Who with the BBC after two seasons featuring Ncuti Gatwa. Disney remains involved with an upcoming spinoff, The War Between the Land and the Sea, but will step back from the main series. BBC director of drama Lindsay Salt thanked Disney Plus as "terrific global partners" and confirmed that Russell T Davies will write a Christmas special for 2026. The BBC affirmed ongoing commitment to Doctor Who and promised future series plans to keep the TARDIS central to the network. Reportedly, each Disney-produced episode cost around $13 million, a likely factor in the change.
