""You don't compromise on what you do, and you do it till they tell you to leave,""
CBS announced plans in July to cancel The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in 2026 for "financial" reasons, sparking speculation about corporate pressure from Paramount and Skydance on network programming. Observers questioned whether Comedy Central's The Daily Show might face similar cuts. In July Jon Stewart, part-time host and executive producer, said, "I'm not going anywhere. I think." On November 3 Comedy Central renewed Stewart for another year, keeping him through December 2026. Comedy Central leadership praised Stewart's return for sustaining incisive comedy and sharp commentary. Stewart reiterated his refusal to compromise his work.
