Netflix has officially renewed Wednesday for a third season, with co-showrunner Alfred Gough acknowledging the collaborative effort behind the show. Gough and co-creator Miles Millar are eager to continue the story of Wednesday Addams, aiming for seven seasons to cover her time at the academy. Neither Jenna Ortega nor Tim Burton provided a definitive answer regarding the ideal number of seasons. Discussions about a potential spinoff are underway, and there are many storytelling opportunities within the Addams Family universe.
"Television has - and always will be - a team sport," co-creator and co-showrunner Alfred Gough said in a statement to Tudum confirming the season-three news. "[Co-creator and co-showrunner] Miles Millar and I have been doing this long enough to know that shows like this don't come along every day. It's such an alchemy of writing, directing, acting, crew, streamer, studio, and fans."
Gough and Millar hope to keep Wednesday Addams enrolled through the character's tenure at the academy for outcasts, "which lasts seven years (or seasons)."
Neither she nor her Beetlejuice Beetlejuice collaborator Tim Burton gave a specific answer when asked by THR what they felt would be the ideal number of seasons for the supernatural comedy series. "I don't think that way," Burton said. "You're talking to two of the worst people to ask that question."
Gough teased to THR that the Wednesday team is "noodling" about a potential spinoff of the show, while Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria hinted, "There's a lot to explore in the Addams Family."
