Report: Sternberg to sell Rays for $1.7 billion
Briefly

Stu Sternberg, owner of the Tampa Bay Rays, agreed to sell the franchise for $1.7 billion to a group led by Patrick Zalupski. The deal will likely be finalized by September and aims to keep the team in the Tampa area. Zalupski, a Jacksonville home builder and CEO of Dream Finders Homes, desires to locate the team in Tampa instead of St. Petersburg. Past stadium plans were scrapped after damage from Hurricane Milton forced changes. MLB officials had also encouraged Sternberg to consider selling the team.
"After careful deliberation, we have concluded we cannot move forward with the new ballpark and development project at this moment. A series of events beginning in October that no one could have anticipated led to this difficult decision."
"Stu Sternberg has agreed in principle to a $1.7 billion deal to sell the franchise to a group led by a Florida-based developer Patrick Zalupski."
