Eglinton Crosstown LRT opening date 'very close,' says Toronto city manager | CBC News
Briefly

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT is in its final testing stages, with city manager Paul Johnson expressing optimism about its imminent opening. Initially set for 2020, the project has faced delays due to technical problems and cost overruns since construction began in 2011. Johnson emphasized the importance of ensuring the service is safe and reliable before opening. Despite expectations for a September launch, TTC interim CEO Greg Percy indicated that an opening this fall is more plausible, but September is likely too ambitious.
"It is very, very close. These are the last stages of really testing it," he said.
"It's going to open soon. Everybody's working towards that, and I know people want to know the actual date."
"The only thing holding back the date is, we also don't want this to be unreliable and be a very poor service when it goes in," said Johnson.
"We're looking at still this fall to get something happening," answered Percy.
