Additionally, catcher Matt Thaiss, who was also designated for assignment days earlier, cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment back to Triple-A Durham. Scholtens takes the 40-man roster spot that Thaiss had vacated, reinforcing the team's roster strategy ahead of the upcoming games.
