"I'd rather die than go on a cruise," my husband declared when I told him about my plan to travel around the Mediterranean Sea by ship. But, just a few months later, there we were, floating in a pool on a yacht off the coast of Rome. 1. Recently, Disney invited me to see the Star View Station, a members-only lounge for Disney Vacation Club, smack dab in the middle of Tomorrowland at Disneyland in California. It's hidden in plain sight, and a welcome respite complete with cozy chairs, retro futuristic theming, Disney antiques, and a kids' area. It also had complimentary beverages, which you could take out onto their exclusive balcony overlooking Tomorrowland.

This village in the lower Hudson Valley is famous for being the real-life setting of Washington Irving's haunting short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which was also made into a 1999 movie. In the tale, the Headless Horseman is said to appear on Halloween night, and plenty of paranormal phenomena occur. That's why the village truly comes alive during fall, when you can find Halloween parades, witchy decor, and plenty of on-theme activities.

Every year, a sprinkling of countryside escapes decorates my calendar like pixie dust and-like so many Londoners -trips like these fill my soul, clear my mind, and leave me returning to 'real' life with a lambs-spring in my step. City life is fun, but it's fast and full-on. Retreating somewhere that promises blissful quiet and a clear night's sky, a watercolor sunrise, and best-of-British landscapes feels medicinal.

We are far enough away to pleasantly observe the stoic creature in its home, a lovely spot in a high meadow tucked between mountains with no one else around except for us.
