Over a decade of visiting US national parks reveals varied experiences. Glacier Bay National Park is stunning yet expensive and logistically complicated. Carlsbad Caverns National Park, while unique, lacks appeal due to personal preferences against cave exploration. Haleakalā National Park offered a memorable visit, particularly during sunset at the volcano summit, but likely won't be revisited soon. Factors influencing return visits include cost, personal interests, and the notion of some experiences being inherently once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.
Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska is one of the most jaw-droppingly beautiful places on earth, but visiting can be both costly and logistically challenging.
Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico is otherworldly, famed for its protection of more than 119 known caves, but exploring caves just isn't my style.
Visiting Haleakalā National Park was one of my favorite experiences, especially watching the sunset atop the summit of the Haleakalā volcano.
Some parks, like Glacier Bay, have such unique experiences that they may be seen as once-in-a-lifetime trips.
