The Peruvian Amazon's Newest Riverboat Explores an Exceptional Natural Reserve Teeming With Wildlife
"No matter what the excursion-fishing for red-bellied piranhas (I caught two!), swimming in a freshwater lagoon, or hiking through the dense jungle-I looked forward to returning to the comfort of the 158-foot-long Pure Amazon. With 10 suites and two single cabins, it accommodates a maximum of 22 guests and has more than a one-to-one staff-to-guest ratio. After my first morning coffee order, my cappuccino routinely arrived just as I sat down, and a staffer was always ready"
"Abercrombie & Kent's commitment to spotlighting talented women added an appreciated layer of learning. The vessel, clad in shihuahuaco, an Amazonian hardwood, was designed by Milan-based architect Adriana Granato, who serves as artistic director of A&K Travel Group. She worked with Peru-born artist Silvana Pestana to create striking pieces of art displayed throughout the ship. Operations manager Angela Rodriguez was responsible for most of the hiring and on-board service decisions."
Pure Amazon is a 158-foot riverboat operating small-group, four-night voyages in the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve of the Peruvian Amazon. Skiff excursions deliver wildlife sightings such as pink dolphins and abundant birdlife including kingfishers, orioles, macaws, and black-collared hawks. Activities include piranha fishing, freshwater lagoon swimming, and jungle hikes. The vessel accommodates up to 22 guests across 10 suites and two single cabins and maintains a staff-to-guest ratio greater than one-to-one for highly attentive service. Five-course dinners use local ingredients with expert wine pairings. The ship features shihuahuaco hardwood, design by Adriana Granato, and artwork by Silvana Pestana.
