Ante Benic, a Croatian captain with a passion for the sea, found his career path in maritime service. He attended a nautical high school, served on cargo ships, and progressed through various maritime roles. After 12 years with Royal Caribbean, he shifted to megayachts during the pandemic, appreciating the more intimate guest interactions. Within six months at the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, he advanced to Chief Officer, showcasing his ability to quickly adapt and excel in new environments focused on luxury hospitality.
Ante Benic emphasizes that growing up near the sea shaped his career choice, stating, "The sea was always a big part of my life. Since I was a kid, I knew exactly where I wanted to end up." This connection to the sea guided him towards a career in maritime service, beginning with nautical training and eventually progressing to roles on various ships.
Benic noted how the transition from large cruise ships to megayachts significantly changed his experience, remarking, "With big ships, nothing is personal. But when you have only 30 guests on a megayacht, it's all about the guest experience." This highlights the intimate nature of service on smaller vessels compared to larger ones.
After a significant period working with Royal Caribbean, Benic shifted to megayachts, which he initially found jarring. However, he stated, "The difference was jarring at first but suited him well," indicating that he adapted to the personalized service environment.
Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection welcomed him aboard as a Safety Officer, a position critical for ensuring guest security, reinforcing the importance of safety in the luxury cruise experience. Benic made quick progress, becoming Chief Officer within six months.
