On May 10, two teenagers, Emmanuel Familola and Matt Sibanda, tragically drowned while attempting to retrieve a football off the coast of Buncrana. Emmanuel, 16, was a recent Transition Year student at Scoil Mhuire, while 18-year-old Matt was preparing for his Leaving Certificate at Crana College. Both boys were international protection applicants and integral parts of their school communities. The schools responded with heartfelt tributes, expressing deep sorrow and recognizing their potential and contributions.
"There are no words that can fully capture the pain and sorrow we are feeling right now. We are truly heartbroken."
"Emmanuel embodied the true ethos of Scoil Mhuire. He was known for his warm personality, gentle humour, and thoughtful nature."
