Couple's 22-hour wait for flight home amid Dubai Airport carnage'
"We were advised by our hotel to get to the airport yesterday morning and then it was just a bit of carnage. I think many hotels told people the same thing. Maybe they were trying to get people out. So some people got on the first repatriation flights, we managed to get on those because we were on multiple waiting lists."
Lee Smart and Nina Luminati from south London experienced significant disruption while returning from a wedding in India when their connecting flight through Dubai was affected by regional military tensions. Stranded at Dubai airport following US and Israeli bombing of Iran, the couple spent the night sleeping on airport chairs among thousands of other displaced passengers. Despite being on multiple waiting lists, they struggled to secure seats on available flights. They eventually boarded Emirates flight EK001 on Wednesday morning, departing Dubai at 7:45am and arriving at London Heathrow that afternoon. The couple described the airport situation as chaotic, with hotels reportedly advising guests to arrive early to secure spots on repatriation flights.
