Majority of teachers fear pupils will go hungry during school holidays, survey says
Briefly

New research indicates that two-thirds of teachers in England are concerned about students going hungry during summer holidays. A survey conducted by The Felix Project revealed that educators fear many parents cannot afford to feed their children when schools are closed. Half of the surveyed teachers anticipated that up to three children in their classes would experience hunger. Charlotte Hill, chief executive of The Felix Project, emphasized that schools' closure and the lack of free school meals exacerbate the situation, placing an extra financial burden on families already struggling with food budgets.
Charlotte Hill, chief executive of The Felix Project, highlighted the challenges families face: "For so many the holidays are a real struggle. With schools closed and free school meals unavailable, it is the parents and carers who must cover the cost of that meal."
Hill added: "But for many, on already tight food budgets, the extra burden is just unmanageable. All this means kids will go hungry. It is a sad reality, and The Felix Project is doing what it can to support people in need."
