
"A man has been charged with the murder of a much-loved pensioner in his 80s after an alleged robbery in east London, the Metropolitan Police have said. Ashley Malcolm, 39, of Reighton Road in Hackney, is accused of killing John Burke, 86, at an address in nearby Fountayne Road, Manor House last month. On Monday, September 29, just after 10am, emergency services were called to reports of an aggravated burglary with a man injured at the property."

Ashley Malcolm, 39, of Reighton Road in Hackney, has been charged with the murder of John Burke, 86, after an alleged robbery at an address on Fountayne Road, Manor House. Emergency services responded shortly after 10am on Monday, September 29 to reports of an aggravated burglary and a man injured at the property. Paramedics took Mr Burke to hospital and doctors discharged him the same day; he was pronounced dead at home the following day. Scotland Yard sought further medical evidence and reclassified the inquiry as a murder investigation on October 22. Malcolm was arrested on October 1 on suspicion of burglary and murder, later charged with robbery and remanded in custody, and linked to three other separate burglaries and attempted burglaries in Hackney. Specialist officers continue to support the family, who have asked for privacy.
