Teenager found guilty of murdering Harry Pitman at New Year's Eve event
"The incident happened in front of a crowd of revellers who had gathered to watch fireworks over the River Thames. Lloyd-Hall, now aged 18, pushed forward and lunged at Harry with a pointed dagger, metres from where uniformed police officers were stationed. In shocking mobile phone footage played in court, a knife sheath is seen to fly through the air during the fast-paced incident."
"Jurors were told Lloyd-Hall was suffering from cannabis-induced paranoia and may have suffered post-traumatic stress disorder triggered by witnessing the aftermath of an earlier stabbing and the loss of a friend to knife crime in June 2023. After a retrial at the Old Bailey, Lloyd-Hall, from Westminster, was found guilty of murder by a majority of 11 to one after a jury deliberated for nearly eight hours."
Sixteen-year-old Harry Pitman was fatally stabbed on Primrose Hill during New Year's Eve fireworks when a teenager lunged at him with a pointed dagger. Pitman had been playfighting before the attack and collapsed minutes later, shortly before midnight, despite calling for officers. Mobile phone footage showed a knife sheath flying through the air as he held his neck and his T-shirt became bloodstained. Areece Lloyd-Hall, 16 at the time and now 18, claimed he only struck Pitman with the sheath and did not intend to kill him. Jurors heard that Lloyd-Hall suffered cannabis-induced paranoia and possible PTSD after earlier violent incidents. After a retrial at the Old Bailey, a jury convicted Lloyd-Hall of murder.
