Vehicle owners in payout battle over car park fault
"Despite retrieving them in April, those affected say "not a penny" of compensation has been paid."
"Mark Lucas said debts of 50,000 have left him living with a "daily fear" of losing his furniture business."
""I understand there were very, very high end vehicles [trapped in the car park]," he said."
"The insurers and other parties involved have been "massively lacking" in their "duty of care", Chris added."
Vehicles were trapped at Rathbone Square near Oxford Street for 28 months after an automated stacker system broke down. Owners retrieved their vehicles in April but report that "not a penny" of compensation has been paid. Mark Lucas said debts of 50,000 built up from van hire, replacement purchase and ongoing loan repayments, placing his Buckinghamshire furniture business at risk. Another owner, Chris, said his claim exceeded 100,000 and estimated total claims across owners could exceed 1m. Multiple parties deny responsibility, citing ongoing investigations and delays sourcing specialist parts, and insurers were described as "massively lacking" in their "duty of care".
