"systemic weaknesses"
"There is nothing more damaging to public trust than the perception that those with privileged access to power get privileged access to taxpayer-funded contracts,"
"These findings show a systemic problem. We need systemic solutions - including screening out political donors from the procurement process and considering a ban on directors of such comp"
Companies donating to Labour were awarded nearly £138m in government contracts during Labour's first year in office. Eight companies donated £580,000 to Labour between July 2024 and June 2025 and received £137.9m in contracts within two years. Since 2001, Labour-linked donors have obtained £796m in contracts, while Conservative-linked firms received £25.4bn, much of it during the pandemic, including deals with Randox Laboratories and Globus Shetland. Across both parties, 125 companies donated £30.15m and were awarded £28.8bn in central government contracts, with £2.5bn awarded within two years. Campaigners call for reforms to screen political donors from procurement.
