Election monitors note instances of voters in England turned away over ID
"Instances of voters being turned away from polling stations owing to confusion over photo ID requirements have been recorded by European election observers watching voting in England on Thursday. While the problem is not regarded as widespread, it has been noted by the delegation from the Council of Europe, which will issue a report on the local elections in England as well as the Scottish and Welsh government elections."
"The delegation will publish a report on Friday that is expected to address issues including the extent to which there have been concerns over the organisation of polling stations, training of staff, access for people with disabilities and where there has been any harassment or any form of interference."
European election observers from the Council of Europe documented cases of voters being denied access to polling stations in England due to confusion surrounding photo ID requirements. A 17-member delegation from the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, representing 46 European states, monitored the local elections in England, Scotland, and Wales. The delegation discussed potential interference threats, though Russian interference was not considered a concern for these elections. The visit aimed to facilitate information sharing among European states. The observers, representing countries including Ireland, Poland, Germany, and Moldova, visited polling stations across multiple locations. A comprehensive report addressing polling station organization, staff training, disability access, and any harassment or interference will be published Friday.
