Labour suffered heavy losses in English local elections, with hundreds of councillors voted out and eight local authorities affected in early results. Reform UK made gains across the country, alongside gains for the Greens and Liberal Democrats. Further vote counting continues into Friday, with additional potential losses in English local contests and elections for the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Senedd. In Wales, Labour is expected to lose the national vote for the first time in more than a century, while the SNP appears likely to remain the largest party in Scotland after 19 years in power. Starmer described the results as very tough, said he takes responsibility, and pledged to deliver promised change. Farage portrayed early results as evidence of Reform’s path toward a future general election victory. Lammy urged Labour not to engage in leadership speculation in response to the results.
