""I remember Battle of Britain in 1940 when we were fighting for our lives. We'd had a great deal of bombing - it was a very scary time.""
""With this 80th anniversary being marked, itâs significant that we honor those who served, especially as they form a diminishing community today.""
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, King Charles and Queen Camilla will host a tea party for war veterans at Buckingham Palace. Events start on May 5 with a military procession of 1,300 armed forces members and a recitation of Winston Churchill's VE Day speech. A flypast and celebratory concert featuring various performers will follow. This occasion is poignant as it may be the last major anniversary with a significant number of World War Two veterans, highlighting their dwindling presence in memory of the war's end in Europe.
