Reform election gains show historic shift in British politics, says Farage
"“What's happened is a truly historic shift in British politics. We've been so used to thinking about politics in terms of left and right, yet what Reform are able to do is to win in areas that have always been Conservative, but equally, we're proving in a big way that we could win in areas that Labour has dominated since the end of World War I.”"
"In Wigan, with Reform winning 24 out of 25 as Labour suffered heavy losses to see its majority on the council reduced. Control of Newcastle-under-Lyme passed to Reform from the Tories."
"Increased support for Reform in areas including Hartlepool, Tameside, Redditch and Tamworth led to Labour losing control of the councils. A third of the seats were up for election in Wigan, with Reform winning 24 out of 25 as Labour suffered heavy losses to see its majority on the council reduced."
Reform UK won hundreds of seats and took control of more councils in England, including its first London borough in Havering. The party surged to victory over the Conservatives in Essex and Suffolk and gained seats from Labour in the Midlands and northern England. Reform increased support in places such as Hartlepool, Tameside, Redditch, and Tamworth, leading to Labour losing council control. In Wigan, Reform won 24 of 25 seats as Labour suffered heavy losses and saw its majority reduced. Control of Newcastle-under-Lyme passed from the Conservatives to Reform. Reform also expected strong results in the Welsh Parliament elections and to be competitive in Scotland.
