Labour reported tough local election results in England, with early counts showing losses of more than 250 council seats. Conservatives also lost ground, while Reform UK gained over 350 council seats and took control of Newcastle-under-Lyme and Havering. The Green Party made some gains, but many target seats were still being counted. Liberal Democrats won Stockport and Portsmouth but lost control of Hull to Reform. Counting continued in Scotland and Wales for parliamentary seats. In Wales, Labour was expected to lose control of the Senedd after 27 years. Starmer said the results hurt and that he takes responsibility, rejecting calls to step down and saying he would not plunge the country into chaos.
