"Nicholas Tartaglione has said he discovered the note while sharing a cell with Epstein at the now-closed Metropolitan Correctional Center. The two overlapped for about two weeks in July 2019 shortly after Epstein's arrest on federal sex trafficking charges as they awaited their respective sentences, according to documents released by the Justice Department."
"Tartaglione told writer and influencer Jessica Reed Kraus in a July 2025 podcast interview that he was in the cell when Epstein allegedly tried to hang himself the first time, and 'woke up and saved him by performing CPR.' He said he discovered Epstein's note in one of his books after that incident."
A one-page suicide note attributed to Jeffrey Epstein was publicly released following a legal petition from the New York Times. The note, discovered by cellmate Nicholas Tartaglione in July 2019, contains five sentences expressing Epstein's perspective on choosing when to end his life. Tartaglione and Epstein shared a cell for approximately two weeks at the Metropolitan Correctional Center following Epstein's arrest on federal sex trafficking charges. During their time together, Epstein was found unconscious with neck marks in a suspected suicide attempt. Tartaglione claimed he performed CPR to revive Epstein and later found the note in one of his books. Epstein died by suicide less than a month later in a different cell. NPR has not independently verified the note's authenticity.
