"DeMaria likewise acknowledged the teen "unfortunately has a criminal history, a criminal past" and is "well known" to local law enforcement."
A 13-year-old boy from Brazil was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at an Everett police station after an Oct. 9 arrest tied to a credible tip about a violent threat against another student. He has been held at Virginia's Northwest Regional Juvenile Detention Center and appeared via Zoom for a bond hearing, where his request for release was denied. Federal officials characterized him as dangerous and a flight risk. Mayor Carlo DeMaria said the youth had a long knife but no gun. DHS alleged ties to a Brazilian criminal ring known as "gang 33" and an extensive criminal history. Lawyers for Civil Rights called for an independent state probe.
