"A school administrator reported a 9-year-old girl missing after she hadn't been seen in months. When deputies went to Melodee Buzzard's home to investigate, her mother was there but the young girl was nowhere to be found. Now, officials are investigating why her mom drove them in a rental car from California to Nebraska and why the 9-year-old was apparently wearing a wig in surveillance photos captured earlier this month."
"But Ashlee has been uncooperative with investigators throughout the search for the missing child, authorities say. Melodee's disappearance has sparked an investigation into the child's whereabouts as the search approaches its second week. We are hopeful that Melodee might be with someone perhaps an extended family member or friend who may not be aware of the circumstances of her disappearance, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said."
A school administrator reported that 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard had not been seen in months. Deputies who went to her Lompoc home found her mother, Ashlee, but not the child. Authorities are investigating why the mother drove a rental car from California to Nebraska and why surveillance images from October 7 appear to show Melodee wearing a wig. Ashlee has been uncooperative with investigators during the search. Officials narrowed the likely window of disappearance to a three-day period in early October. The most recent official photo of Melodee is dated 2023. Search efforts continued into their second week.
