Silicon Valley billionaire donates fleet of police Cybertrucks to patrol Las Vegas
""Welcome to the future of policing," Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill said during a recent press conference, surrounded by the Cybertrucks while drones hovered overhead and a police helicopter circled above him."
""They look a little bit different than the patrol cars that we have out there, but they represent something far bigger than just a police car," the sheriff said."
A U.S. tech billionaire donated ten Tesla Cybertrucks to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, creating the nation’s largest police Cybertruck fleet. The black-and-white vehicles carry department logos, flashing lights and sirens, and have been outfitted with shotguns, shields, ladders and extra battery capacity to meet police demands. About 400 officers were trained to operate the trucks, which will use public charging stations. Officials say the vehicles are bulletproof, offer a shorter turn radius, and will respond to barricades, shootings and regular patrols. Oversight experts raised concerns about private donors influencing public departments and boosting the Tesla brand.
