Kevin Johnson, a former NFL defensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles and Oakland Raiders in the 1990s, was found dead Jan. 21 near a homeless encampment in the 1300 block of E. 120th Street in Willowbrook near Compton. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined that he died from blunt head trauma and stab wounds. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Johnson’s death was one of four homicides near the same encampment between October 2025 and January 2026, and all four victims were believed to be unhoused. Investigators are working to determine whether the cases are related. Loved ones said Johnson may have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). A week after Johnson’s body was found, authorities discovered another man dead near a nearby flood channel.
