Briefly

U.S. Vice President JD Vance's visit to India marks a significant diplomatic engagement, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and trade ties. Scheduled meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the ongoing negotiations for a bilateral trade deal, aiming to double trade to $500 billion by 2030. Vance's arrival coincides with a pressing trade war between the U.S. and China, positioning India as a key ally. The visit intends to solidify the U.S.-India partnership, with both nations aiming for an ambitious trade agreement and deeper cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
"We are very positive that the visit will give a further boost to our bilateral ties," Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters last week.
"India is a close partner of the U.S. and an important strategic ally in combating the rising influence of China in the Indo-Pacific region."
The U.S. is India's largest trading partner and the two countries are now holding negotiations aiming to seal a bilateral trade agreement this year.
They have set an ambitious target of more than doubling their bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030.
