24 states sue Trump admin to unfreeze more than $6 billion in education grants
Briefly

A coalition of 24 states and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration regarding the freezing of over $6 billion in federal education grants. The funding freeze was announced unexpectedly, causing concern among states, particularly those with early school start dates. Arizona lawmakers highlighted the adverse financial implications for school districts. A number of Democratic and Republican lawmakers expressed their opposition to the freeze, urging the administration to release the funds, which support various educational programs, including migrant education and after-school programs.
With no rhyme or reason, the Trump Administration abruptly froze billions of dollars in education funding just weeks before the start of the school year, said California Attorney General Rob Bonta.
This freeze is putting Arizona school districts in an impossible financial situation, as school districts have already adopted their annual budgets and signed contracts for the upcoming school year, wrote Arizona lawmakers.
I strongly oppose the administration's decision to pause the delivery of education formula grant funding to states and local school districts across the country, stated Sen. Susan Collins.
The frozen funds include grants that pay for a wide range of programs for schools, including migrant education, before- and after-school programs.
