4 GOP senators join Democrats to rebuke Trump on tariffs for a third time this week
""The way that the president has imposed the tariffs is leading to nothing but chaos,""
""Announce tariffs on everyone, then announce that they may be suspended or delayed while I work out one-on-one deals.""
""The president's negotiations are bearing fruit. President Trump already announced new trade deals,""
""Other deals are, hopefully, forthcoming.""
A slim Senate majority approved three resolutions this week to terminate tariffs that President Trump imposed using emergency powers. The final vote passed 51 to 47 to roll back global tariffs announced in April. Democrats cleared the measure with support from Republicans Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul. Earlier votes with similar cross-party support ended tariffs on Brazil and Canada, with Republican Thom Tillis joining Democrats on the Brazil vote. Most Senate Republicans opposed the measures as counterproductive to the president's tariff program. Senate Finance Chairman Mike Crapo cited new China tariff reductions as evidence of fruitful negotiations. A House rule blocks comparable votes there.
