Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent mayoral candidate, warned that President Donald Trump would use federal authority to effectively seize control of New York City if 34-year-old democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani wins. Cuomo said the federal government could deploy the National Guard and ICE, close airports and cut health and housing funding to pressure the city. Cuomo argued that Trump would need an excuse to justify a takeover and that Mamdani would provide a compelling pretext.
