Bonta filed 33 lawsuits against the current administration in one year because of consistent legal violations. The BRIC program, established in 2018, provides funding for disaster mitigation projects and has allocated $4.5 billion for nearly 2,000 projects nationwide. The program highlights the importance of infrastructure pre-planning for disaster resilience. The funding mechanism created through BRIC allows states and localities to access financial support for large infrastructure projects aimed at preventing loss of life and property during disasters.
"It's becoming a hallmark of Trump's presidency," said Bonta. "Trampling over the separation of power, sidelining a Congress led by Trump's own party, violating the Constitution and putting the American people in harm's way."
"What the BRIC funding did was it created a standing mechanism where states and localities through the states could get funding for these really sort of large, kind of expensive infrastructure projects that would actually build resilience and prevent the loss of lives and loss of livelihood," said Schlegelmilch. "So it marked a really important turning point. It was actually a very forward-looking achievement."
