British journalist Sami Hamdi detained at SFO after DHS deems him a threat to national security
"He was, as we say, abducted at SFO, and we believe he was taken -- as far as we know -- to a detention center in Bakersfield,"
"We see it as a clear violation of First Amendment protections. You know, federal authorities here detained him at the behest of a anti-Muslim extremist individual, Laura Loomer, and a group that had been advocating for his detention and for the revoking of his visa on baseless claims,"
"Those who support terrorism and undermine American national security will not be allowed to work or visit the country."
Sami Hamdi, a British journalist and political commentator, had his U.S. visa revoked and was detained by ICE at San Francisco International Airport. CAIR reports he was taken to a detention center in Bakersfield despite holding a valid visa. Hamdi had spoken at a CAIR Gala in Sacramento and was en route to another CAIR event in Florida. The Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary posted that Hamdi poses a threat to national security. CAIR calls the detention a clear violation of First Amendment protections and says attorneys are working to secure his release. Previous planned talks at Canadian universities were canceled. Critics say Hamdi celebrated the Oct. 7 Hamas attack; Hamdi denies that claim.
