He was rushed to a local hospital and later died from his injuries. Politicians and commentators across the spectrum offered prayers and condemned political violence. Rep. Nancy Mace spoke to reporters on Capitol Hill and immediately blamed Democrats, saying 'Democrats own what happened today.' When asked whether Republicans 'own' earlier shootings of Minnesota Democratic lawmakers, Mace angrily rejected equivalence and described the shooter as 'some raging leftist lunatic.'
