Hoping to join Wu on ballot, third-place mayoral candidate pursues recount
""receives a number of votes at least equal to the number of signatures required by law to place his name on the preliminary election ballot.""
""Why do you even need to have more than X amount of votes if you were already on the ballot? I was already on the ballot. It's new""
Domingos DaRosa, a community activist who finished third in the Boston preliminary, is seeking a recount to reach the 3,000-vote threshold required to replace Josh Kraft on the November mayoral ballot after Kraft withdrew. State law allows the next-highest vote-getter to take a withdrawn candidate's spot only if that person received at least as many votes as the signatures required to appear on the preliminary ballot. DaRosa received 2,409 votes, below the 3,000-signature threshold. DaRosa collected recount petition signatures in 10 of Boston's 22 wards and filed recount paperwork before the deadline, aiming to gain enough votes to qualify. Mayor Michelle Wu would remain the heavy favorite.
