Jake Tapper questioned why President Trump did not walk out of his meeting with Putin when it became clear there would be no ceasefire. Special envoy Steve Witkoff claimed that Trump was mediating and respecting Ukrainian requests, particularly regarding land swaps. Witkoff characterized the ceasefire as merely an interim measure toward achieving a comprehensive peace deal. He asserted that significant progress was made during the summit concerning essential elements for a peace agreement. A meeting with President Zelensky was scheduled promptly following the event.
The one thing that the president cannot agree to on behalf of the Ukrainians is any sort of land swap that is for the Ukrainians.
I described the ceasefire as the interim move where you would then negotiate towards a peace deal.

We're not waiting a week for a meeting with President Zelensky and the European leaders.
