Abdullah Ocalan, leader of the PKK, urged his fighters to disarm in a video message, emphasizing the necessity of practical steps in the ongoing peace process with Turkey. He expressed belief in politics over armed struggle and called for public disarmament to meet the expectations of the Turkish parliament. Ocalan supported forming a parliamentary committee to oversee the peace initiative and reiterated that the phase of armed struggle had ended, framing it as a historic gain and advocating a shift towards democratic political engagement.
Ocalan said, "It should be considered natural for you to publicly ensure the disarmament of the relevant groups in a way that addresses the expectations of the (Turkish parliament) and its commission."
"I believe in the power of politics and social peace, not weapons. And I call on you to put this principle into practice," Ocalan declared in a video message.
