Sam Altman warns finance leaders at a Federal Reserve conference about the dangers of voice authentication. AI voice cloning can replicate a voice in seconds, posing a significant risk to security. Altman describes this practice as alarming and states that AI has outsmarted many existing forms of identity verification. He predicts a potential fraud crisis necessitating a complete transformation in how institutions verify identity. Altman expresses concerns about a potential financial crisis instigated by adversaries using AI to attack financial systems, leading to catastrophic consequences.
A thing that terrifies me is apparently there are still some financial institutions that will accept a voice print as authentication for you to move a lot of money or do something else.
Voice authentication is a crazy thing to still be doing and AI has fully defeated many ways financial institutions currently confirm identity.
People are going to have to change the way they interact. They're going to have to change the way they verify. This is a huge deal.
A widespread financial crisis where an adversary uses AI to launch an attack on the U.S. could break into financial systems and take everyone's money.
