Queens Council Member Julie Won announces run for New York's 7th Congressional District - QNS
"Lifetime of Care"
"Here's what I believe: from the moment you're born until the day you retire, your country should have your back,"
"That's not how it works right now. We live in a society built to extract, not to care. You're treated as valuable only when you're most productive."
Julie Won launched a campaign to succeed U.S. Rep. Nydia Velázquez in the 7th Congressional District on a "Lifetime of Care" progressive platform calling for universal healthcare, universal childcare, housing for all, expanded Social Security and the abolition of ICE. The 26th Council District that Won represents largely overlaps the 7th Congressional District across North Brooklyn and Western Queens. The race includes Assembly Member Claire Valdez and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, creating a contest among three progressive candidates. Velázquez endorsed Reynoso, Mayor Zohran Mamdani endorsed Valdez, the NYC DSA endorsed Valdez, and several City Council colleagues endorsed Reynoso. Won is the first immigrant and first Korean-American to represent the 26th Council District.
