Republican calls out Trump on GPU sales to China
Briefly

The Trump administration lifted restrictions on the sale of Nvidia H20 GPUs to China, prompting concerns from Representative John Moolenaar regarding potential advancements in Chinese AI and military interests. Previously, sales were blocked due to fears these chips could enhance Chinese supercomputing capabilities. Nvidia estimates potential losses of $10.5 billion due to regulatory changes, while AMD forecasts a $1.5 billion revenue impact. The letter to Secretary Lutnick emphasized the U.S. chip advantage over Chinese manufacturing capabilities.
"We must not allow US companies to sell these vital artificial intelligence (AI) assets to Chinese entities," Representative John Moolenaar stated in a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. He emphasized the potential advancement of Chinese AI and military interests through exports of Nvidia H20 GPUs.
Following the decision, Nvidia estimated the cost of the lifting ban would be nearly $10.5 billion in the first half of its 2026 fiscal year, while AMD projected a loss of $1.5 billion.
