Senate to reconvene on Monday amid funding stalemate as government shutdown drags on
"It's time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today. No half measures, and no gamesmanship. Put every single federal worker back on the job with full back pay -- today,"
"It's time for our leaders to start focusing on how to solve problems for the American people, rather than on who is going to get the blame for a shutdown that Americans dislike,"
Senate will convene at 3 p.m. ET Monday as the government shutdown reached day 27, becoming the second-longest in U.S. history. The longest shutdown lasted 35 days during President Trump’s first term in December 2018 into January 2019. The House remains out of session while Republican and Democratic lawmakers are deadlocked over funding. The American Federation of Government Employees, representing over 800,000 federal and D.C. government workers, called for a clean continuing resolution with immediate full back pay. Senate Republicans failed to pass a clean short-term measure as Democrats push to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies. President Trump blamed Democrats for the shutdown and air traffic controller shortages while en route to Japan.
