The DOJ Is About to Embark on Trump's Vengeance Safari
"[Pam Bondi] said the [Weaponization Working Group] would focus on investigations into Trump conducted by former special counsel Jack Smith and his staff; Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York Attorney General Letitia James; and any "improper" investigations into the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. But after a year, the group has not produced anything publicly."
"In recent weeks, Trump has been pressuring Justice Department officials for results in these and other investigations, recently admonishing a group of U.S. attorneys for failing to deliver on cases he wants brought. The Weaponization Working Group is now expected to start meeting daily with the goal of producing results in the next two months, according to the person familiar with the plan."
Pam Bondi created a Weaponization Working Group to examine investigations by Jack Smith, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, New York AG Letitia James, and alleged improper Jan. 6 probes. After a year the group has produced no public findings. President Trump has pressured Justice Department officials and admonished U.S. attorneys to produce cases he wants. The group is expected to meet daily with a target of producing results within two months. Ed Martin, who previously failed Senate confirmation, led the group and advocated publicly naming individuals the department could not charge, which departs from standard DOJ protocols against commenting on ongoing investigations.
