Trump fires all members of fine arts commission that reviews construction projects in Washington, DC
"We are preparing to appoint a new slate of members to the commission that are more aligned with President Trump's 'America First' policies,"
"On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as a member of the Commission of Fine Arts is terminated, effective immediately."
"plays an important role in shaping the way the public experiences our nation's capital and the historic buildings it contains, which serve as symbols of our democracy"
The Trump administration terminated all six members of the Commission of Fine Arts, the federal advisory body on aesthetics for memorials and government buildings in Washington, DC. The dismissals coincide with plans for a substantially larger White House ballroom, removal of the East Wing, and a triumphal arch at Arlington National Cemetery. The White House indicated intent to appoint a new slate of members aligned with 'America First' policies. The removed members—two architects, one landscape architect and three urban planners—were appointed by a previous administration. CFA members serve unpaid four-year terms and the commission was established by Congress in 1910 to advise on federal aesthetic matters.
