Trump pulls US out of 'woke' Unesco
Briefly

The US Department of State announced its withdrawal from Unesco, stating that continued involvement is not in the national interest. This decision is part of broader anti-Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives under the Trump administration, which previously pulled out of Unesco in 2017. While the US rejoined Unesco in 2023 under the Biden administration, the forthcoming withdrawal reinforces a pattern of US membership cycles with international organizations. Unesco Director-General Audrey Azoulay expressed regret, noting unchanged reasons for withdrawal despite evolving circumstances.
President Trump has decided to withdraw the United States from Unesco-which supports woke, divisive cultural and social causes that are totally out-of-step with the commonsense policies that Americans voted for in November.
The reasons put forward by the United States to withdraw from the organisation are the same as seven years ago, even though the situation has changed profoundly, political tensions have receded and Unesco today constitutes a rare forum for consensus on concrete and action-oriented multilateralism.
