""Corrections honors all federal and local detainers by notifying Immigration and Customs Enforcement when a person committed to its custody isn't a U.S. citizen," Walz wrote. "There is not a single documented case of the department's releasing someone from state prison without offer"

President Donald Trump and top administration officials accused Minnesota state and local leaders of refusing to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement after federal agents fatally shot Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Trump urged Gov. Tim Walz, Mayor Jacob Frey and other Democrats to cooperate. Two U.S. citizens, Alex Pretti and Renee Good, were killed by immigration officials in Minneapolis-area incidents in January. Administration officials asserted Minnesota would not turn over immigrants in detention. State correctional officials and Gov. Walz have said state prisons notify ICE and honor federal detainers, and that state corrections cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement despite city noncooperation policies.
